My wife discovered this very apt seasonal adaptation while surfing social media. The arranger and performer is Martin Kerr whose website says he hails from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The 2:26 long musical lament can be listened to at the above link, which also includes the lyrics. Here’s the descriptive blurb provided above the lyrics:
“God Rest Ye Merry Billionaires” is a poignant take on a well known holiday classic. The lyrics tell a story of corporate greed and its impact on everyday people. Kerr’s songwriting aims to hold some accountability to consumerism’s negative impacts on society with his version of this song.
It’s quite crafty and the lyrics work well with the melody and timing making it easy for people to learn just in time to employ it. It was released on 27 October 2023.
