I was also impressed by the distinction made with regard to the difference between 'nationalism' and 'patriotism'.

"Nationalism is the first stage to Nazism, it is the first step, nationalism. Because nationalism is based not just on love for the representatives of one's own ethnic group, but on hatred for others–-that is the essence of nationalism. Patriotism is a different matter altogether. To love your homeland does not mean to hate others. And nationalism is fueled precisely by this—hatred of other countries and other peoples."

There was a time when Great Russian Chauvinism existed and beat up the minority peoples within the Russian Empire. There are other lessons from the Lenin and Stalin Eras that don’t get mentioned much anymore as Putin’s mantra is Russia the Multinational Nation—we must all pull together. Russia could become a difficult place to govern, which is why the big drive to spread the wealth as widely as possible. Cold Warriors look at the Nationality Question and salivate at the possibilities for divide and rule. As long as nascent or genuine Nazism exists, Russia will need to be on its guard.

Wonder to see in conversation by a leader knowledge to be taken into the heart becoming imbued with one’s soul.

I think it’s very natural percolating into the ones genes.

Feel that way about my father , grandfather about their experiences in WW1, and WW2 but the memory is disgraced by our current politicians of the West who have become like those who my ancestors fought against .

We have been betrayed in a heinous way in Canada.

Don’t think these moronic leaders know the strength of what they are up against

It is the apex of hubris and ignorance to believe for a second that you could ever defeat a people such as these.

He is certainly receiving criticism today, after all he swiped a hand at domestic nationalists. In fact unsurprisingly he is equated now with Lenin and Stalin, even that he is as far from communists as he is from nationalists! :)

There will not be a USSR 2.0 or nationalist state under built under President Putin. By the way this criticism of nationlism today cannot be a revelation because:

"The biggest nationalist in Russia is me. But the most correct nationalism is to build actions and policies in such a way that it benefits the people. If nationalism is understood as intolerance towards other people - chauvinism, this will destroy our country, which was originally formed as a multinational, multi-confessional state. This is not only a dead end, it is a path to self-destruction. In Russia, they will do everything to prevent this from happening" - President Putin, 2014.

Well he tried to stretch an owl onto a globe :) I will not say more.

Anyway some months before but also in 2014 there is this, for purposes of entertainment :)

I recall both those news items. My critique of Putin is that he wasn’t as complete in his explanation as he was 10+ years ago. I see we have a few senators who still think sanctions can be used as a tool to get Russia to stop the war they started. In another topic, I watched an interesting podcast yesterday where the concept of “Cloud Capital” was introduced. There’s a transcript along with the link to the video here, https://michael-hudson.com/2025/04/digital-empires-and-the-ghosts-of-the-gilded-age/

Thank you very much. I do not know Yanis Varoufakis, now I will know something. I think President Putin is saying enough and nothing more. This is normal, no reason to antagonize anyone, and annoyingly he demonstrates this in his statements about Trump and America. We are not politicians, thankfully. Sanctions? Thank you again, everyone enjoys a good joke :)

Today is International Workers Solidarity Day. You work and you know the value of labor, so I send many congratulations!

Also today in 2014 was foundation day of PMC Wagner. Congratulations to the veterans of the most famous PMC of 21 century, yes it ended badly, but many of them still defend our Motherland with honor, mine do, URA!

And 80 years ago by order of Stalin, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Odessa and Sevastopol received the title of "Hero City".

If we share and celebrate our history together, we will never forget it and nobody will ever be able to erase it.

Thanks for your May Day Greeting!! I’m sure you merit the same applause. The talk today between Hudson, Wolff and Nima touch on the oddities of Trump’s mind and behavior, which the Chinese have also noted and written about. Soon, it will be available to read. We are different socialists today, nevertheless thank you very much.

Wonderful. It is easier to read, sometimes accent and interference of signal requires a lot of attention.

Did you see minister of Japan speak to his foreign minister in the parliament about Trump and America, “he is not a straight partner so he will not listen to our straight talk”, and “I hope you will never give in to the American extortionists, I know it is harsh but they are extortionists”.

Well I listened to it several times because this is the first time I witness a government official of an American partner say these things publicly.

There is also a nuance with mineral agreement involving American military in Ukraine.

Hegseth threatened Iran on social platforms, and response by a respected Iranian scholar describing American collaboration with genocide committing zionists.

It is now undeniable. Trump and his government are the greatest threat to every living being on this planet.

Good for Japan. They’ve been extorted before with the Plaza Accords. Japan could learn from China and not give-in.

G'day Karl, that is certainly a great topic for future study; nationalism especially with Trump and his MAGA mob and Zelenskys and his OUN B overlords re your comment of the crossover to chauvinism.

Nationalism starts wars and is used to make people feel superior to their neighbour state or the "other".

The cries of "My country's better than yours" I see as oneupsmanship that leads to extremism. The Empire was very afraid of "Arab Nationalism" which was more an attempt to infuse pride into Arabs who'd been kept down by colonialism for so long. Here in the Empire, Exceptionalism and the need for Primacy is the core that holds all other nations in contempt no matter how powerful they are, which is further powered by Manifest Destiny. Politicians, Churchmen and Pundits have long held that if Americans don't win all the time that there's something wrong here, not that the winners were better; and as Hitler showed, that's a dangerous brew.

Read about the Pilgrims who justified their slaughter of the natives because they were destined to control the land thanks to their god’s benevolence. Their leaders all confessed in their memoirs. But the ideology came from Europe.
