"We must shift from “democracy vs. autocracy” to a new paradigm of “good governance vs. bad government.”

Absolutely. 👍

"China has about 3,000 universities with 40 to 50 million students."

That's the population of a medium-sized country attending Chinese universities every year. A remarkable country, full of superlatives.

Some day, 'China' will be a superlative.

Definitely ''liked'' this one... been missing your words ... dont know if you or was it I who was absent... only halg through but that was a good one...

re medium powers... Iran for sure ... wheile we can read daily 10s of commentators guessing what Irans means for power politics... and can US win a longterm war etc... well I refer to Zuez in the 50s... England thought they could force Egypt... one way or another... England lost its empire starting 1947... with India's independence... and England could not grasp that the good old days were no more...(80 years hence they still seem to be unwilling to face the turth that they are well not even a medium power - - - how many years will it take USA to face the truth that they are a hegemon no more... ??? probably less than 80 years as they Russia/China/Brics/Medium Powers constalation grows expotentially... ie new world order is in the ascendant... plus the current generation of genocidal-forever war-israel lovers... in the 60s and 70s will die out... taking with them a stink or is it stench ... of rot...

Chinas rise has been driven by sound policy, cheap energy and education that has useful qualifications when completed . It could be argued that they have learned from their past as to what does and doesn't work , and apply the lessons . It must be noted however that the narrative coming out of China contains their own "spin" and that they have their own problems which will have to be addressed . Holding a huge country together with disparate ethnic and religious groups (like Russia) requires intelligent governance and consistent values . Civilisation requires trust and it's going to ruin the west as the chaos , open corruption and utter nonsense passing for policy in the west will unless stopped and accountability restored .

The Russian satellite Sputnik went up in 1957, three years before I graduated from high school. America woke up and launched a huge effort to fund science to catch up.

The current gap in US productivity compared to China is now more extensive than it was years ago, especially since the US has financialized its economy. China's planned economy grounded in a civilizational is moving ahead at amazing speed and few Americans realize what is happening.

The rise of Iran as a middle power is an important event in the changing global order.

Russia has rebuilt after the 1991 crash, but I don't see the grit and brains in the US to overcome the arrogance of a Super Power in the next few years, or even decades.

The material in Karl's post and and links are more comprehensive and deep than the site linked below, but it might be useful for some to have a quick reminder of progress in China.

Thanks for the link on Asia.

Education , open source internet , free Substack articles is our age the feudal never imagined and instead questioned the why of learning to read or write when you have a sword as in Charlemagne’s day, ninth century AD.

Then it was an obligation for a vassal to follow one’s Lord into war as is Trump/America since the beginning of the Cold War .

The psyche financed by feudal wealth models still survives until human progress deflates it as we see.

No honour in death either as Feudal America simply suicides along with its European Lords of the Land so dumb to our human changes.

History has a learning potential !

Thanks Karl for the news.

"Whenever I debate with Western scholars, they ask if Chinese people dare to discuss democracy, but I say this is true democracy. In Chinese cultural tradition, we distinguish between “Dao” and “Shu”; “Dao” is the overall goal, while “Shu” is the specific method. In contrast, in the Western “democracy vs. authoritarianism” paradigm, democracy is defined by themselves, based on Schumpeter’s 1942 formula for voting leaders. From China’s perspective, it is merely procedural democracy, at best a form of democracy, not the whole. What we must first establish is the “Dao,” that is, what is the goal of democracy? The answer is good governance, the country must keep its word, and leaders must respond to the needs of the people." - Very interesting. I totally agree on this!

"conclusion of the end of history"... LOL! It sounds like a parody of Fukuyama's thesis.

Cheers Karl! That was a long read but worth it.

It seems clear to me that the divergence between east and west is clear across multiple facets of everyday life. Western citizens are being beggared by incompetent leaders, a supine but intransigent determination to follow a liberal-democratic theology that doesn't reflect the needs or desires of the population, and the hideous hidden-hand of corporate money buying politicians.

We will swiftly become intellectual and technological backwaters, dragged down to oblivion as our pedo Epstein Class steal everything worth having.

The good versus bad governance model discussed here is clearly the way forward, but I can't see it happening because it will require slaying too many sacred cows and an actual transfer of power from the Epstein Class to 'We the People'.

Zhang Wei Wei is brilliant, for sure. I would like to know the characters for 'Dao' and 'Shu'. Do you know them?

Also, Carlos Martinez wrote a thorough description of China's 'Whole-System Democracy' a form that begins at the very bottom level of Chinese society. Voting takes place at the community level, and elected representatives go on to elect the next level, and so on. This means that every Chinese person is just six or seven levels removed from Xi Jin Ping!

Tedder130's avatar

I assume ‘dao’ is the same ‘dao’ as in “Dao ke dao fei chang dao…”, but there are many instances of ‘shu’, from ‘book’ to ‘comfort’.

The leadership in the USSA is nothing short of a complete cluster coitus. It's the result of years and years of running roughshod over all other countries and decades upon decades of being agreement incapable and utterly untruthful. Karma ia a bitch.
