Well, perhaps we could agree that the US, like just about every other polity in human history, has internal struggle between good and evil tendencies and agendas. I think most Americans would agree with the author’s general description of the purpose of the Constitution whereas you are also correct that from the get-go there were insidious ‘oligarchic’ protections built in. I imagine that is why there was so much in-fighting behind closed doors for so long before they finally came up with their clearly inadequate compromise which fell apart not even a century after it was all put together. Some aspects of the Constitution are clearly designed to prevent oligarchic tyranny but others favor it. Which is why I think it is time for the country to scrap Constitution 1.0 and make a better one.
I suspect America’s early success had more to do with the industrial revolution than its Constitution, that along with their having relatively virgin territory once guns and germs were used to rapidly eradicate the natives meaning millions could come in and rapidly set up farms and businesses which in more crowded nations is rarely possible.
Like this Canadian family in Russia. Bought some land a couple of months ago and the whole family with 8 kids is building their own home with no neighbours in sight for miles around. They’ve had a few runarounds with government officials viz road placement and such, but it seems the regularly environment is far looser out there. I know in Canada no way you could just build that way without endless experts and inspections every step of the way.
