The International Court of Justice—the UN’s Court—has delivered its initial opinion on South Africa’s complaint of Occupied Palestine’s waging of Genocide against Palestinians and has made this Friday very busy as much else is also happening.
<blockquote>"The Permanent Mission of Algeria to the UN has received instructions from the republic’s president, Abdelmajid Tebboune, to request that the UN Security Council be convened as soon as possible for the implementation of the ruling issued by the ICJ regarding the provisional measures imposed on the Israeli occupation," the statement read.
Algeria believes that the ICJ’s ruling will put an end to the "impunity era" in Israel’s actions against Palestine.</blockquote>
Algerian president Tebboune has stepped up to the plate! He has much more freedom of action than most Arab leaders. How many will follow?
A comment by Uncle Davy at globalsouth.co points out that the ICJ ruling validates the position of Yemen as being legal. which makes the US and UK intervention contrary to that legal act.
In short, he reminds the Court that when a state that is party to the Genocide Convention learns that genocide is imminent, it is obligated to use whatever means available to it to act to prevent this.
Yemen is so acting, in sanctioning those sending aid to the genocidal actor. It's a nice point, and I look forward to Ansar Allah's comments on this.
Prediction: The Zionists and their NATO allies will continue to violate the Genocide Convention and thus become de facto Outlaw Nations in no uncertain terms in the eyes of the Global Majority. The Global Majority ups its efforts to its duties under the Genocide Convention and embargoes all the Outlaw Nations, recalls their ambassadors and declares the Outlaw Nations's ambassadors's persona non grata thus expelling them. The Zionists are ordered to reappear before the court in one month with proof they've obeyed the court's instructions which we know they won't, placing the Zionists in further violation of the Genocide Convention. The few nations providing the Zionists with succor, specifically energy resources, are going to come under great pressure to stop such supplies or risk becoming an Outlaw Nation--and the three are all Muslim nations--Turkey, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
Will the decision push Netanyahu to escalate the conflict with Hezbollah? Will the decision and what's likely to happen in the future motivate more Zionists to emigrate? The Arab Street will surely be emboldened, so how will the governments of Jordan and Egypt react?
Act I's curtain slowly rose throughout 2023 as 50,000+ illegal Zionists defiled the Al-Aqsa Mosque and became fully raised with the Act commencing on 7 October. The ICJ ruling marks the beginning of Act II as the political and legal lines are more clearly defined. How long the Act continues until Act III begins depends on the actors and their actions.
I agree; expulsion of the enabling states, and in particular the duplicitous co-members of the five eyes, AU, NZ, who posture on democracy and human rights. The cessation of energy supplies and may I add China should consider cessation of vessels bearing finished goods and inputs to industrial processes, nothing gets attention like empty shelves.
No possible scenario can be claimed valid - REALITY - before it comes to fruition as REALITY. Portraying any scenario as A SCENARIO one cannot be mistaken, but nothing could be further from the truth to present ONE possible/likely outcome as the one. Especially as it continues the self-deception that is prevalent by all those pretending to be able to solve the unsolvable - by men's mind - commonly known as HUBRIS!
Taking sides for ANY FACTION OF THE SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN is the first step into PLATO'S MENTAL PRISON CAVE offered by the poisoned gospel of THE SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN ... since EVE in THE GARDEN OF EDEN!
THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE ONLY - THE ONE AND ONLY INCARNATION OF GOD ALMIGHTY AND SHEPHERD AND SAVIOUR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND THE HOLY SPIRIT FOREVER AND EVER - AMEN HALLELU-YAH!

Agree with Karl that this is HUGE and will take probably several days at least for the implications to be sussed and appreciated. I highly recommend a look at today’s Naked Capitalism blog. Yves Smith put up a post that does a pretty deep analysis of the ICJ ruling and the comments add additional value. Also she linked a post from John Helmer (Dances with Bears) that gets into the intense diplomatic talks taking place over the Red Sea shipping “difficulties”. Top-notch journalism imho! The World is a very different place today. How different? A little soon to say. “War is over, IF you want it!”
"it will take force to make the Zionists conform to Human norms since so many of them favor Genocide."
Indeed. Iran, Hezbollah, and the other state and non-state actors in the region have the capability to do that, regardless of whether the US intervenes on behalf of Israel or not.
It has been suggested by Ray McGovern and Larry Johnson today on Napolitano's channel that it may be that some of the younger Zionists around Biden - like Sullivan - might be willing to let the US abstain from the vote in the UNSC when a ceasefire resolution comes up again because of their potential culpability under the Convention. Ray tended to doubt that and I would agree. We'll see. The problem is that even they do, no UNSC Resolution on the issue will result in military force being applied to Israel - unless Russia, Turkey, China and Iran were to decide to do so - which I view as highly unlikely.
So it will remain to the regional actors to decide Israel's fate.
As an aside, Scott Ritter pointed out yesterday on Garland Nixon that in the first engagement between the US Navy and Ansar Allah, the US lost. The two Maersk Line ships carrying US weapons to Israel were forced to turn around and go back, and Maersk has now suspended further shipments. Ansar Allah 1; US Navy 0.
The next step is Israel's: start the full-scale war with Hezbollah. I think we can expect that within the next four weeks or so.
Great summary, Karl. I've been busy, so this is helpful. I agree this is a positive development. Call me cynical but I expected much less from the ICJ. SA's brief is a critical historical document and this decision and it's orders are indelible proof that genocide is being committed.
Thank you, Karl. I am listening to different commentariats this morning....so far, a very interesting one is on Grayzone by: “International legal expert and ex-UN Office of Human Rights Commissioner whistleblower Craig Mokhiber”. Maybe of interest? https://www.youtube.com/live/uwjSF8Ar6dE?feature=shared
There'll be many such shows, which one to watch is the question since I have a plate full of events to cover again along with domestic chores I also need to do. Mokhiber I remember from long ago as an honorable man.
Adding, b’s analysis at MoA is on the money as well and given that he has announced his annual plea for donations, I’m going to contribute a bit of my Social Security income to his most worthy cause. I’d encourage y’all to do likewise!
Have you noticed that, almost at the same time of the ICJ ruling, most western news agencies and outlets started circulating the news that UNRWA was investigating Israeli allegations of some of its employees' involvement in the 7 October Hamas attack?
Not only that, but also the US State Department immediately suspended its funding to UNRWA just on the base of these allegations, with the EU Commission considering taking similar actions. Nevertheless it looks like both US and EU are not considering any action following the ICJ ruling. The usual hypocrisy and double/triple-standard of the declining Western empire.
However, it is disheartening to talk to brainwashed relatives and friends (some even very smart!), try to open their eyes, only to get pushed back. Years and years of NATO propaganda on MSM have completely obfuscated their minds and turned off their critical thinking.
I'm fortunate that I don't have that miasma too. My wife and in-laws understand as does my daughter, and then there're my writing audiences who read what I write because they mostly agree with it all and with the Russian and Chinese items are getting educated. Today's domestic duties have kept me from writing, but that doesn't negate the number of events that need airing.
I believe they want them out of Gaza lest they be asked to testify as to Israeli actions after this Judgment was made. The ICJ can't render judgment of previous actions without full investigation which it did not do, but it has established Law with this Judgement, a Law which Israel is now honor-bound to follow, which means it must now do all in its power to prevent genocide as described. They killed another 200 people today so clearly that's not going to happen, but at the least they can clear out all those potential witnesses.
If he wasn't seen as such by the Global Majority already, with those additional murders Netanyahu is now no different from Hitler legally and morally. Talk about flushing your face down the toilet!
There is a good discussion of this by Grayzone's Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate with Craig Mokhibar, the UN Office of Human Rights Commissioner who resigned a few months back over the UN's decades-long failure to enforce the numerous resolutions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwjSF8Ar6dE
They also discuss today's decision by the Biden administration to cut funds (news reports say "pause") to the UNRWA, the agency that's providing the humanitarian aid in Gaza. The decision is based on allegations from the Israeli government, obtained from "interrogating" Hamas prisoners, that about 12 UNRWA staff participated in the Oct. 7th Hamas invasion.
there is a glimmer of hope in all of this.. it was interesting to me b pointing out that russias invasion of ukraine is also under consideration at the icj with no decision having been made yet... https://www.icj-cij.org/case/182/press-releases
however, i don't believe any statement was issued over this... i could be wrong, but i don't recall..
Another update comment from MoA:
The diplomats I mentioned @121 have indeed been working: <a href="https://sputnikglobe.com/20240126/algeria-to-request-unsc-meeting-to-implement-icj-ruling-on-israel-1116420190.html">"Algeria to Request UNSC Meeting to Implement ICJ Ruling on Israel"</a>:

I talk about this in my latest article: https://geopolitiq.substack.com/p/us-and-eu-ignore-icj-ruling-and-focus
The West is in big time damage control that will fail.
I hope so... with all my heart.

The Duran suggests another reason for the ICJ not declaring the last 100 or so days in Gaza as a definite genocide and ordered an immediate ceasefire. At about the four minute mark on https://rokfin.com/post/165194/ICJ-delivers-ruling-in-favour-of-South-Africa, which seems like sound reasoning.
Meanwhile the Evil Empire's comprador supporters of the Gaza war crimes in Occupied Palestine shamelessly 'out' themselves daily.
