I have a number of pals who (a) understand US politics and stresses (they either live there or are citizens) and whose politics and world view are 180 degrees different to my own. Nevertheless we share the very sanguine view that the USA is heading for some major internal crisis akin to civil war. Indeed it is arguable that the current situation is an internal civil cold war. When the POTUS says that half the country are nationalist racists extremists then you see the level of fear beimg ramped up and a burning of bridges, not any attempt to compromise and understand differing views.
Now I don't hold any torch for Trump or the RNC, but clearly the game is "rigged". The Federal Agencies, MSM, big tech, cultural and education institutions, and the judiciary (even USSC) and DC are all wholly captured by the Democrats - DC votes 96% dem for example. In my view the 2020 election was at best doubtful and probably stolen via fraud - but in any event my view doesn't count. It is the view of the 40% to 50% of US voters that think this was the case. And the weight of the Dem machine will be applied to ensure another POTUS victory. Regardless of whether the 2024 vote is clean, many people will believe it will not be. And like 2020 it will not be properly investigated or reported on, and the use of postal votes and electronic voting machines (without an audit trail) will simply create conditions where doubt is at least legitimate. And the divide in views is now so deep that a compromise on so many issues looks impossible. Whoever "wins" the elction will be deemed illigitimate my near on half the country.
The USA's support for Israel at this time is alienating many right thinking people in the USA, but the biggest disaster for the Biden Adminstration will I think come with the collapse of Ukraine before the election. Clearly this is now being blamed on The Reps sitting on funding. Actually it is unfair to blame the senile old fool that is Biden, as he is medically unfit. The clown show that is the Biden Administration does not appear to actually run the country - witness the recent DoD situation. I'm not sure if anyone is actually in charge, per se. The US economy is tanking right now, the deficit is running at staggering levels, inflation is high and living standards continue to fall. Its internal politics are a disaster waiting to happen and its place in the world is under intense pressure. There seems to only be a limited set of policy responses to any stress and that is to resort to violence and sanctions, as if these have some track record of actual success. Though I guess stealing other peoples' money is a new wheeze and no doubt will undermine further the pertro-dollar.
So a very bad situation for the USA and it will need decades of reform and work under enlightended and skilled leadership to pull the country away from the abyss. There is little sign that those in positions of power and influence are prepared to do anything except double down on failed approaches and people. Part of what I expect will be an ongoing effort to maximize an atmosphere of hysteria surrounding the US election. He's right that the choices are lamentable. But in the sense of difference in policy that can be expected, the "stakes" are way overstated. There won't be much difference in either international or domestic policy. A second term from either Biden or Trump would see US pumping money into dubious projects to reindustrialize, lots of rearmament, and plenty of clumsy but aggressive attempts to put out what were entirely avoidable fires set by the same prior administrations of both candidates.
The Neoliberal Parasites operating fiscal and monetary policy won't allow reindustrialization as they want all the rent flows, which is why deindustrialization occurred in the first place.

I have a number of pals who (a) understand US politics and stresses (they either live there or are citizens) and whose politics and world view are 180 degrees different to my own. Nevertheless we share the very sanguine view that the USA is heading for some major internal crisis akin to civil war. Indeed it is arguable that the current situation is an internal civil cold war. When the POTUS says that half the country are nationalist racists extremists then you see the level of fear beimg ramped up and a burning of bridges, not any attempt to compromise and understand differing views.
Now I don't hold any torch for Trump or the RNC, but clearly the game is "rigged". The Federal Agencies, MSM, big tech, cultural and education institutions, and the judiciary (even USSC) and DC are all wholly captured by the Democrats - DC votes 96% dem for example. In my view the 2020 election was at best doubtful and probably stolen via fraud - but in any event my view doesn't count. It is the view of the 40% to 50% of US voters that think this was the case. And the weight of the Dem machine will be applied to ensure another POTUS victory. Regardless of whether the 2024 vote is clean, many people will believe it will not be. And like 2020 it will not be properly investigated or reported on, and the use of postal votes and electronic voting machines (without an audit trail) will simply create conditions where doubt is at least legitimate. And the divide in views is now so deep that a compromise on so many issues looks impossible. Whoever "wins" the elction will be deemed illigitimate my near on half the country.
The USA's support for Israel at this time is alienating many right thinking people in the USA, but the biggest disaster for the Biden Adminstration will I think come with the collapse of Ukraine before the election. Clearly this is now being blamed on The Reps sitting on funding. Actually it is unfair to blame the senile old fool that is Biden, as he is medically unfit. The clown show that is the Biden Administration does not appear to actually run the country - witness the recent DoD situation. I'm not sure if anyone is actually in charge, per se. The USA seems to be run by competing factions and interest groups.
The US economy is tanking right now, the deficit is running at staggering levels, inflation is high and living standards continue to fall. Its internal politics are a disaster waiting to happen and its place in the world is under intense pressure. There seems to only be a limited set of policy responses to any stress and that is to resort to violence and sanctions, as if these have some track record of actual success. Though I guess stealing other peoples' money is a new wheeze and no doubt will undermine further the pertro-dollar.
So a very bad situation for the USA and it will need decades of reform and work under enlightended and skilled leadership to pull the country away from the abyss. There is little sign that those in positions of power and influence are prepared to do anything except double down on failed approaches and people. We must hope and pray that these self-inflicted wounds do not enrage the beast, causing it to lash out and bring the rest of the world down with it.
