Medvedev has turned into one of the most hard-hitting - and often quite amusing - right wing hawk types in the public media space despite his high-powered job running the Defence Council. He serves as a good reminder to his Western peers that should they succeed in toppling Putin (which they won't), who they might get in his place will surely be far less palatable.
You're right. Reminds me of the sardonic cautionary tale for children by British poet Hillaire Belloc, titled "Jim, Who Ran Away From His Nurse And Was Eaten By A Lion". (The unruly child broke away from his nanny while visiting a zoo, broke into the lion's cage, and the lion promptly ate him.) The poem ends with the admonition "Children, always keep a hold of nurse, For fear of finding something worse."
Thank you for the post. I am sadly in agreement with what he said. The West, the US and all its suzerains, are now at a moral low point. BUT, a question. I do not understand the last sentence: ---And from now on, they are not just enemies of Russia.--- Did he mean: 1. And from now on, they are enemies of Russia. (A translation problem?) OR 2. And from now on, they are not just enemies of Russia........but also enemies of, say, A. "humanity"? or B. possibly "all honorable people"? or C. "some other set of people or nations"? Thank you in advance.
I think this is an important observation, and the word "weathervane" being key. I think Russia is fizzing angry at the Crocus terrorist attack (and the latest volunteer numbers for the army bear this out). VVP and those closest to him cannot voice that easily in public due to the potential ramifications of their comments being seen as 'policy', but Medvedev can, and does. And I think his 'rants' reflect Russian thinking, and I also think they serve as a stark warning to those parties in the west that seem to think their forever wars can continue unabated, particularly if they are stupid enough to send NATO soldiers directly into conflict with their Russian counterparts.
Are they that stupid? Damned right they are: the collective IQ of wester politicians seems to aggregate in single digits, so I expect some incalculably dumb move from someone of authority in some western capital. It could be Paris, London, Berlin, or Washington: they're all as bad as each other.
You've discovered why I provide Medvedev's more important rantings. Often, only a portion get published in English language Russian media where the full context is always important rather than the soundbite or quip. As Escobar notes, who says what publicly in Russia is very indicative.
I believe that many astute observers in the West, especially in the military (UK excluded) are well aware. Public statements to that effect are verboten.
I agree, regrettably. MoA, karlof1 and many others have pointed out the shortfall in the mental acuity of Western leaders. Simplistic memes got them elected. The electorate should figure out how to avoid self annihilation. Hands off, if it becomes 'Bombs Away.'

Ha ha ha! I read that book hundreds of times growing up in London back in the 50's and 60's. Great stuff!

IMO, they've become enemies of Humanity as are all terrorists, and your B would also apply.
He could mean, it has gone further than 'just' being enemies? i.e.escalation
Medvedev can say what he likes and says things other people are not in a position to mention.
At the very least he is a weathervane for prevailing opinion in some circles.
Glad to hear him say it.
Not conforming the mainstream US MSM memes would get him, what is the word today 'Canceled?'

thanks karl
i wonder what the facts are with regard to macron and his involvement.. is it more general, or specific?
We still don't have the official lowdown. That will come when it's all ready to be announced as promised.
Almost simultaneously, Andrei Martyanov published his latest post on the same topic (with a funny meme as well, though not strictly related): https://smoothiex12.blogspot.com/2024/04/on-lighter-note.html
