Putin's Reunification Day Speech

Novorossiya is the regions proper term

Although the trial by fire has yet to be completed, the four initial regions to rejoin Russia observed their first reunion anniversary. The map below shows what remains to be added to completely reunify the lands that were part of Great Russia.

What the situation will be a year from now is a guess as only the top echelon of Russian leaders know what is planned. With all that out of the way, here’s Putin’s speech:

Vladimir Putin: Dear friends! Dear citizens of Russia,

I congratulate you on the Day of the Reunification of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions with Russia.

A year ago, on September 30, a defining, truly historic and fateful event took place: agreements were signed on the admission of four new federal subjects to Russia. Millions of residents of the Donbass, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions have made their choice – to be with their Fatherland.

This conscious, long-awaited, long-suffering and truly popular decision was made by people together during referendums in full compliance with international standards, showed courage and unyielding character. They tried to intimidate them, to take away the right to determine their own future, their own destiny, to take away what is dear to everyone-culture, traditions, native language – everything that was hated by the nationalists and their Western patrons, who staged a coup in Kiev in 2014, and then unleashed a full-scale civil war, terror against dissidents, organized a blockade, constant shelling and punitive actions in the Donbas.

But nothing and no one can break the will of millions of people, their faith in truth and historical justice. The people of Russia supported the free and unambiguous choice of our brothers and sisters wholeheartedly, understood and deeply felt the main thing: by defending our compatriots in the Donbas and Novorossiya, we are defending Russia itself, fighting together for the Motherland, for our sovereignty, spiritual values and unity, for victory. I thank all the citizens of the country for this solidarity and patriotic spirit.

Today, we are also building our common future together, restoring and building schools and hospitals, homes and roads, museums and memorials. All our regions provide truly fraternal assistance to the cities and towns of Donbass and Novorossiya. Volunteers, public and religious organizations, parliamentary parties, entrepreneurs and labor collectives make their contribution to this work, to this common cause.

The recent elections in the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts were an important step in strengthening our common state, political and legal space. Just like a year ago, at historic referendums, people once again expressed and confirmed their will to be with Russia, supported their fellow countrymen, those who earned the people's trust by hard work and real deeds.

There is a lot of work ahead and solving complex problems, implementing a large-scale program for the revival and socio-economic development of our historical regions. And we will definitely achieve our goals.

I would like to make a special appeal to the residents of the Donetsk People's Republic, Luhansk People's Republic, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. Thank you for the fact that, despite all the trials, you saved and passed on to your children the love of the Fatherland. Thanks to you, your firmness and determination, Russia has become even stronger. We are one people and together we will overcome everything and meet any challenges.

The bolded portions are aspects of Russia that the West doesn’t seem to comprehend. The longtime adage of the dangers associated with provoking a mother bear by threatening her cubs was clearly dismissed when it should’ve been heeded strongly. The historical failure to either eradicate or colonize Slavs is again being repeated. And when this is over, Russia will make certain this will be the final attempt. In other words, this conflict won’t end with Ukraine’s capitulation. The entire hegemonic system is being targeted for elimination and replacement. When that’s completed, the conflict will be concluded.
