The Valdai International Discussion Club’s existence closely matches Vladimir Putin’s years as Russian President and Prime Minister as this week marks its XXI Annual Meeting that now lasts four days, with the Plenary Session capping the event.
what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger and as we see with russia, this is indeed the case... the hostile and negative attitude of the west towards russia has cemented russias determination and desire to overcome the pettiness of the west...
hey you ended your post with that word 'empire... i thought that wasn't the best way to frame the usa or did i get that wrong?
It's a failing empire or one in decline or whatever term you want to apply. Russia acknowledges its Imperial past, but the USA can't summon the courage to admit what it is and has always been--an Empire--although there are a few exceptions.
You present a good education with the words unaltered for people to think for themselves.
Open to to change without the hot breath of war breathing down one’s neck is a nice and so sensible move considering the vast pace of changes humanity is experiencing.
The Valdai Club is Russia’s version of a think tank. The annual meeting is only one of many events held year-round. I don’t publish its extracts here as much as I did at VK.
"Even a trained swimmer will not go very far upstream, regardless of the tricks or even doping they might use.
The current of global politics, the mainstream, is running from the crumbling hegemonic world towards growing diversity, while the West is trying to swim against the tide.
This is obvious; as people say, there is no prize for guessing. It is simply that clear."
thanks karl..

So much good sense in this talk.

We need our wits about us or we Weill perish.

Whew. That sure is some massive verbiage.
There's much more to come. Compared to previous Valdai Club events, this is the norm.
That's great! It starts with an earthquake
Birds and snakes, an aeroplane
and Lenny Bruce is not afraid
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs, don't mis-serve your own needs
Speed it up a notch, speed, grunt, no strength
The ladder starts to clatter with fear of height, down height
Wire in a fire, representing seven games
In a government for hire and a combat site
Left of west and coming in a hurry
With the furies breathing down your neck
Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered crop
Look at that low plane! Fine, then
Uh oh, overflow, population, Common Food
But it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
Tell me with the rapture and the reverent in the right, right
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light
Feeling pretty psyched
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine
Six o'clock. TV hour
Don't get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return
Listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform and book burning, bloodletting
Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a votive
Step down, step down
Watch a heel crush, crush
Uh oh, this means no fear; cavalier
Renegade and steer clear!
A tournament, a tournament
A tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
And I decline
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
(It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine
(It's time I had some time alone)
I feel fine
Continental drift divide
Mountains sit in a line
Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Brezhnev
Lenny Bruce, and Lester Bangs
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly beans, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam, but neck, right? (Right!)
It's the end of the world as we know it
(It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it
(It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine
(It's time I had some time alone)
Haha. I just had to. Can you find "Trump" among the verbiage?

Vladimir Poutine
Thanks Karloff, I was ( WE we're) waiting for it
