The thing is, the US IS everywhere! 800 foreign bases; it's building the biggest embassy in the world in Lebanon; it has its tentacles in countless foreign countries, where it manipulates foreign and domestic policy to its advantage. I'm afraid Lukyanov has been taken in by the Trump fantasm. USAID has been relocated into the State Department and no doubt all its, other foreign 'NGOs', will likewise be relocated, renamed, to resurface. It's all smoke and mirrors.
I might add, that as a businessman, Trump is a crook and a conman. A spoilt rich kid who inherited his father's real estate empire and in the 1970s/80s, nearly threw it all away. And in any case, underneath it all, US imperialism rocks along.
I might add, that the 'Deep State' is all too aware of what kind of man Trump is, a narcissist, with delusions of grandeur and have crafted a 'cover story', a cloak, if you will, behind which the state can hide and whatever happens, Trump will either, be the hero or, take the blame. I think he's completely expendable, so he can be outrageous, say and do outrageous things, all the while, the state is pursuing its objectives.
I read your translation and compared it to the RT translation, Karl, and found them quite different.
In RT, among many other things, they talk about the revival of the American Dream.
Perhaps I'm in a bubble, but for those of us who have paid attention to Gaza, and the American support of Israel's genocide of it, that dream rings hollow.
I do, however, think it's important to articulate a new, more inclusive, fair and multipolar dream. These power dynamics of the west are so destructive and need to be put to rest.
Excellent! You picked the major problem with the RT version—IMO, that’s worse than plagiarizing. As for the American Dream, as Carlin explained, you need to be asleep in order to believe it. The two nations offering their citizens what was once considered the American Dream are China and Russia, although there may be others I’ve yet to examine—regardless of what you do, if you apply yourself positively, you’ll be supported your entire life. And you’ll note that neither Russia nor China boast about that very important fact as they know that just doesn’t happen; it needs constant attention to ensure the system works properly and can deliver those results.
I get the humility of Russia and China, but it would be nice to see more emphasis on quality of life online, or somewhere so it reaches people in the west.
Genocide, hunger, homelessness and homelessness are no one's idea of the American Dream, and I'm sure Trump's actions will just make all of those things worse.
That's what I try to do with my posts -- create a different vision for people to work towards. The American Dream needs a major upgrade. And then the vision, budget and labour to make it happen.
There are many Youtube channels, some by expats living in China like Fermube, Daniel Dumbrill, and Inside China Business. I'm particularly interested in the business channel (there's also a substack now) as Kevin Walmsley uses stats and business reporting sources. If you want to see travel around China I'm fan of Unseen China as Yan goes to far away provinces in her travels.
Trump team is using the term 'multipolar' in the sense that the entire colonial adventure the westies are doing will now be seen to be managed by the co-located poles of the hegemon. The UKEU is now charged with responsibility to win in the ukraine so as to protect the core of the hegemon from embarrassment given their high likelihood of failure. Not a lot will change in the mind of usa. However I suspect the UKEU public and its election systems are very different from the usa and they could continue to generate leadership and parliamentary changes unsuitable to the hegemon's preferred course.
Governing nations as if people mattered is evident in Russia and China and their approach and achievements leaves western observers somewhat gobsmacked. The challenge is for these achievement to be made apparent and comprehensible to western people, ie., to penetrate the wall built by the Internews Network and soon to be continued through US State Department and its next NGO trick.
On a side note deepseek informs me of the official US line on Internews Network. Reading their report you would not get the impression of anything untoward. I guess it will do some further intelligence effort to arrive at a more informed and nuanced statement. I dont expect propaganda but I do expect some political analysis beyond WSJ or msnbc advice :(
Well, within the Empire we need someone to police Congress and POTUS as lots of legislation violates UN Charter and thus US Constitution. Elsewhere, robust foreign agent laws are required and strong enforcement. The big problem within the Empire is the media is allied with the government Outlaws and doesn’t whistle-blow. Even the ACLU is useless as well as Public Citizen. And without a lot of cash, you can’t hire the lawyers needed to sue.
I keep thinking after rereading your notes at the end — in a certain way, the Yalta Order functioned properly in what was called Eastern Europe, in other words, in the sphere of influence secured by the Warsaw Pact. It is this part (in European context only, of course) that has collapsed after 1989–1991. The NATO expansion is tied to the collapse of that part, which was the Yalta Agreement stipulated the sphere of influence in Europe.
Hmmm! What is this "international law" you talk about? Did you vote for it? Who did vote for it? Only a handful of mostly unelected bureaucrats who were striking deals with each other. That's how we end up with an "International Criminal Court" that declares President Putin to be a criminal who should be arrested the moment he touches down in any country which recognizes the ICC. Is that the kind of "international law" we should respect?
Face reality -- international law is just like national law, the powerful exercising authority over the rest of us. That's why we talk about law "enforcement" -- the key work there is "force". The US de-industrialized (When did we vote for that?), and now can no longer exercise much in the way of force; so the world changes. Today, President Putin and President Xi look like they will be more responsible and fairer than the likes of "Joe Biden" (for which we should be thankful) -- but what about the people who come after them? History tells us what to expect in the longer term ... and it is not good!

Seconded.

100% with you on this one, Karl!
right on karl!
