We've been looking for a specific Russian charitable organization to name in our will as the beneficiary of our estate. These two would both be admirable candidates. Thank you so much, Karl, for bringing them to our attention.

You're most welcome. I'd suggest the Kindness Foundation because of the work it performs. The website when I accessed it had a security warning pop up that suggesting I not go further. I did and found nothing wrong, although the opening video was slow to load. https://circleofkindness.ru/

Karl, you are giving us very valuable information ... thank you... It is very good to read Pres. Putin cares so much... as much as the volunteers working to help.

Again, this humanizes the struggle. We get a peek behind the curtain and see the tragedy. Watching the vids on the military strategy channels give a video game aspect to the whole thing.

Of course, the Kindness Foundation was initiated in 2021 by Putin during Covid for very different reasons from those of the SMO--to provide very rare and extremely expensive medicines to Russian children afflicted with diseases just as rare. Why didn't the Foundation exist before is a good question. It's funded by a special tax of 2% levied on Russia's top earners, but also gets lots of support from outside government. These medicines are millions of dollars per dose. IMO, Covid forced an in-depth examination of Russia's medical system that's generated some important improvements in the facilities/infrastructure part, although the personnel part has some mean shortages as do medical facilities globally.

The Russian version of Christianity differs vastly from the Vatican/Western variety and is part of the modern Russian ethos allowing them to see others as equals, which IMO sets Russia far apart from the West. Orthodoxy wasn't always that way as it helped justify serfdom. Orthodoxy had to undergo a very serious rethinking of itself during the Communist period and is now something it wasn't 120 years ago. Islam in Russia also differs from Islam elsewhere and is also an important pillar of Russian society and culture.

Thank you Karl for your excellent potpourri of subjects to read. Coming from a position of compassion and solidarity with humanity is what seems to be the foundation of these two services. I am sure it makes a difference to their 'clients' or should that be their people in need. As for the bureaucratic obstruction encountered by the injured, I suspect that a preliminary low threshold test would benefit many rightful recipients, and a few hustlers, but setting the bar too high (as is the neo liberal economic mode) results in grave injustice to many who have given their all for freedom. The system can manage a few hustlers but the offence and disgrace of punishing the worthy seems to unnecessarily set up insurmountable levels of resentment. I am sure they will find a way. (Off topic, John Helmer continues his tale to tell of Iranian helicopter crashes etc., worth the short read.)

The Circle of Kindness? Hmmmmmmmm the work is clearly important but why the title? It reminds me of the neoliberal turn of language when we use a horticulturalist instead of a gardener. Anyway, thank you for reporting.
