I think the upside with this is that it makes it very difficult for the Euro and NATO warmongers to paint Russia as bad guy here. The Russians abided by the 30 day moratorium on attacking energy infrastructure, they offered a truce over Easter, and they are offering talks without preconditions. I don't expect that the Ukrainians will follow suit, but the offer is good.

The downside here, though, is that I'm afraid that this will be misinterpreted (again) by the west as weakness on Russia's part. Are we looking at a Minsk 3.0 scenario, where Russia gets its fingers burned (again!) by treacherous, double-dealing from the EU and NATO? Is Putin that naive?

I want this to end, but I want that ending with the Russian Army in Kiev, and the Green Goblin in an orange suit facing trial for war crimes.

I wonder how this is being seen by the Russian people?

I hope to have an answer for your question. Much happened today in Russia after the announcement as I told Natalia on the CBS interview thread just now.

Hmm, yes. Russia doesn't need to message the global south as the US and it's satellites are exposed as imperialist frauds whose veneer of humanism has been washed away by the Gaza genocide.

The disgusting scenes in Rome with the green goblin and his curators only adds to the plummeting stocks of the combined west, and therein is their desperation as London is at the epicentre of an epic financial meltdown. I've been saying for the longest time that empty shelves are coming, and they are, and it wasn't China that made it happen but Trump and his advisers. All that Putin has to do now is sit by the river and watch the bodies of his enemies float by.

thanks karl... the recognition of the 80th anniversary of victory is a significant marker.. this is a good way to honour it - 2 day ceasefire... we'll see how it is handled soon by the ukraine side.. if there leadership for the past few years is any indication, it won't be accepted in any spirit of cooperation or compassion.. i would like to be wrong.. i will be happy to be wrong..

Ukraine will not follow suit. Putin it too sensitive to loud mouth frog - Donald Trump

Trump is busy killing over 100 Palestinians a day and never mentions it when he's croaking about 'too many peole dying' Well...there's a solution to that prince Drumpf. Stop sending weapons and money. To both Genociders.

I disagree that “Putin’s too sensitive.” IMO, at this juncture and as with the Easter truce, this is another very sound ploy by Russia—remember the decision is via consensus. I’ll be writing more about the issue over the next few days.

okay - personally I think Russia should take over all of Ukraine upto and including Kiev. They can have the rest of the west.

Yes, but the problem is that the US and the rest of the rabble, simply aren't listening to anything the Russians say, they're still operating under the delusion that the Russians are losing, they're near to bankruptcy etc. Worse still, the US still won't admit that they started the war and are still keeping the damn thing going! As to the 2-day ceasefire, the West have already decided it's a sham and no doubt will make sure that it'll be the Russians who break it. I'm not sure if the Russians fully understand the total censorship that been installed in the West, worse still, it's not just censorship, a completely false reality has been constructed to replace the existing one!

Russians are very good at obeying their orders. Putin stated that if Ukraine violates the truce, Russia will respond appropriately. The very long lead-time is also a trap for the West as the entire world is watching. I would also say it’s Putin’s answer to Trump’s plea to “Stop,” as in—Yes, I can stop, but can you?

Entire world is watching, what? What are we watching in the West? That's the problem, all the 'news' is fake. I watch it (when I can bear it), every day and it's our govts that count here, not the Global South, not Russia, not China. How do you think the Palestinian Holocaust has been carried out in full view? Because we're presented with a false reality.

Sorry, the entire Rest of the World. Our times aren’t the first or even the second. This remarkable tract can be freely downloaded at the following link and is worth perusing, “The Struggle Against The Historical Blackout,” https://archive.org/details/StruggleAgainstTheHistoricalBlackoutTheHarryElmerBarnes

It was initially published in 1947. Harry Barnes is one of the canceled historians. He saw most of the 20th Century he experienced as a betrayal of the America he was born into.

Yes, I found it but it needs completely reformatting. On Abebooks, one copy is £538.60, the cheapest is £271.74.

According to the blurb:

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 8vo. Circa 1950. Stapled in wraps, 24 pp. Rare booklet by the accepted then reviled American historian, whose heel-turn position on Germany makes him an interesting case study in 20th century extreme politics. A controversial figure who began his career as an ivy league historian, and ended it as a notable isolationist and later Holocaust denial proponent. Previous owner name ("Payseur") to corner of front wrap, a touch of general overall wear and light stress to pages from thumbing through, else a clean, handsome copy. Photos available upon request.

You've made a valid point William, however, the diagnosis is incorrect.

The 24/7 crockaganda, crock of something fed for western consumption, hurts us, not Russia. As the economic woes of the West increase exponentially more saps awaken from their slumber and for many too late.

Major power-cuts on the Iberian peninsula today, many city services ceasing to function, at a standstill. On a warm day like today being caught between train stations, a long walk to the next exit with rats for company and no Pied Piper in sight.

I see nationwide Euro strikes on the horizon with workers out on the streets of Europe questioning their governments austerity programmes while stumping up 40 billion for the Ukraine debacle.

Curious about the power cuts since Spain's energy supply's been rather consistent.

Yes Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Lisbon, many other cities at standstill.

Now Spain are one of Europe's basket cases with Debt-GDP of 124%.

Now who was it that had a beef with Spain these last 2 years with an embargo of arms sales and purchases? Oh yes Spain sanctioned Israel. Maybe just a coincidence and I have Dancing Israelis on the brain. lol

I listened to Alexander Merkuris on The Duran about this today. He reveals some interesting background on cease fires, truces and the Russian military's take on it. Losing ground during the Easter truce.

Truces work for Russia as the rats come crawling out of their holes to steal a forward position and get caught in a fire-sack. Surprised they keep falling for this trick.

Agree, but I don’t think “stupid” is the proper term. Vindictive, hateful, and others seem more appropriate since Nazis are running Ukraine.

You don’t need to be a member, although it’s free, to download at The Archive. Barnes has other works available there too. I’m in the midst of an anthology he edited, “Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace,” published in 1953.
