I totally endorse every word Lavrov ever says. If there were a Lavrov fan club I would want to be the secretary! Thanks very much for this post.

This is the only way! “When we join forces, the world is able to change for the better, to move forward”.

The wheels of progress turn slowly. I think BRICS will accomplish some worthwhile things but it won’t be easy. The West will not relinquish its hold without a fight. It also seems to me that some of the countries joining BRICS want to keep a toe in the other side as well.

If you're going to follow the UN Charter, then you won't be meddling in the affairs of other nations. Again, the preferred method by Russia and China is persuasion not coercion. And being older civilizations in relation to most nations, they have an advantage in experience with that art.

I think a third important point was made: changing the UNSC. Unless this is done, the UN does more harm than good as has been the case since its founding. It seems Russia is supporting Brazil and India's inclusion. That will give the BRICS bloc a majority with US-UK-France on one side (though UK and France should be long gone by now) and China-Russia-India-Brazil on the other side, so 4 vs 3.

The veto system is appalling.

Agreed, but there's logic to its existence as Lavrov's detailed. Stalin knew the West couldn't be trusted, and events would prove him correct. Three veto holders are Outlaws and by all rights shouldn't be UN members given their massive number of illegalities. As has been the case since the 1600s, enforcing International Law is the problem. France had the legal means to halt Hitler in the early 1930s but chose not to. That failure to enforce the law led directly to WW2, a crucial point all but ignored today.

thanks karl.. there is something very weird about elon musk... i don't trust the dude.. something i can't put my finger on, but it is there..

Musk is an idiot. His entire behavior over Twitter is proof. He's simply one of these tech billionaire idiot narcissists who hit it big and now both he and everyone else thinks his every word is wisdom.

I can't even think of one tech billionaire who actually has any rationality or common sense at all. Gates, Zuck, you name it, they're all the same - rich assholes who, as my father (may he rot in hell :) ) used to say, "think their shit doesn't stink."

Sergey Lavrov has to be the best diplomat the world has seen or heard of for a very long time.He is getting on in years , as the rest of us .Not anxious to see him replaced .His footsteps will be very hard to follow .Hope he stays on for the next duration of the presidency of V.V. Putin .

IMO, most of Team Putin will remain until 2030, although some may move to different ministries. I'm curious if PM Mishustin will continue as he's been a very quiet but extremely important component for marshalling Russia's development. If Lavrov retires, I see Ryabkov or UN Rep Nebenzia as very capable replacements.

One, the G-20 must declare its utter and total rejection of using any "economy as a weapon" and the Imperialist notion that "war as investment."

Maybe one small step at a time. This one alone needs some time to sink and and reverberate. Getting that statement acknowledged and adopted would be a great step before proceeding to step two and your step three.
