Some thing's survive the most dramatic changes: it has been 103 years since, on September 1 1920, the "First Congress of the People of the East" in Baku, Azerbaijan met and discussed almost the same issues

The delegates, mainly Turks and Persians broke into frenzied applause when, speaking for the Comintern, Zinoviev said "Brothers, we summon you, in the first place, to a Holy War against English Imperialism.."

The Empire has a new mailing address, safe on the far side of the Atlantic, and the Comintern died a lifetime ago, even the Bolsheviks have gone, while superficially the British, French, Dutch and Belgian and Empires no longer exist.

But the logic of international relations under imperialism has not changed. It is a remarkable fact that the interests of all but the ruling class of the Empire demand an end not just to the five odd century old domination of the european-creole empire but the capitalist class relations which underpin it.

bevin, you can edit by clicking the ellipsis ... dots to the right of reply at the end of your comment. And thanks for the added context. Perhaps we ought to rename/rebrand this conflict and call it the Last Anti-Imperial War instead of the New Cold War, which really doesn't properly describe the stakes.

I was going to let this one past but then it occurred to me that Russia is on a diplomatic offensive at present. Compare this to the USA. Regardless of the words, a powerful message.

yes, but how many people in the west are listening, or giving coverage to any of this?? the media plays an out sized role in the west, and they are of course missing in action when any alternative viewpoint is presented.... uni-polar media coverage remains and that is the specific intent too!

Precisely james, that's why my attempts to fill the gap. It would be great if this posting garnered over 2,000 views, although 20 million are really the minimum required.
