thanks karl.. i was curious about the word "Banderovtsy" that putin used... it turns out that basically translates as 'banderite'.... i know russia is trying to clarify and articulate the history and that wikipedia is a western run propaganda site... in reading the wiki page on banderite, i saw this at the bottom - "Today, in Russian propaganda, the word is used to refer to all in Ukraine who back the idea of sovereignty from Russia; Ukrainian nationalist collaboration with Nazi Germany is also emphasized." the footnote for this goes to a book published in 2020 -The Burden of the Past: History, Memory, and Identity in Contemporary Ukraine

https://www.amazon.com/Burden-Past-History-Identity-Contemporary/dp/0253046718

it seems wikipedia and others in and out of ukraine are busy writing their own version of events.. i am not sure how this can be addressed...

quote from the overview of the book i cite above -

"....the groundbreaking scholarship collected in The Burden of the Past provides insight into how memories can be warped and abused, and how this abuse can have lasting effects on a country seeking to create a hopeful future."

and i say to that - those who are unwilling to recognize the past, are doomed to relive it..

the main author of the book ( dr Anna Wylegała) appears to be polish and teaches at

INSTITUTE OF PHILOSOPHY AND SOCIOLOGY

POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES - location appears to be based in warsaw..

Yet another Pole who can't abide her past, which is an example of what I wrote about us Americans--Do we really what to know about what we've done or are inheritors of?

You notice Putin's demand that official documents be used so people can make their own historical interpretations. And given what the Russian's have and what they contain, they can easily prove that Western "interpretations" are actually distortions and outright lies of what actually occurred. Indeed, what Russia is pointing out is the West's Media is becoming "1984'"s Ministry of Truth, and its contemporary "historians" modern day Winston Smiths. It's that issue that makes me so angry with people like Ehret who distort without having any need to do so--The facts are there, so just report the facts!

my main problem here is how most in the west are unwilling to hear what russia has to say! i am speaking generally, but the power of the western msm largely contributes to this by constantly saying any alternative view is russian propaganda.. wikipedia is a perfect example of this mind game..

Russia is doing what it can to combat all that. Many of the important websites dealing with this issue are now multilingual, while the most important documents are also being translated and posted online. You'll have noted the severity of Putin's tone during the discussion that there's nothing trivial about this; that it's just as important as winning the SMO. For Putin and most Russians, Nazism and the West's propaganda that supports it must both die so hard they can't rise again. That's the enormity of the task.

Thankyou james and karl, I agree with everything you say above on all the associated issues, wiki included. and this especially is how think "history" needs to be done and presented :

"You notice Putin's demand that official documents be used so people can make their own historical interpretations. [...] It's that issue that makes me so angry with people like Ehret who distort without having any need to do so--The facts are there, so just report the facts!"

I basically hate what the media is today, but I also hate so much of what these self-published "experts / bloggers" are pushing into the mix. Some are good and balanced while none are perfect, but some are disgraceful and harmful and poison minds. The propagandized anti-Russia brigade especially. Frustrating.

“Monumental” is simply inadequate to describe this endeavor by Russia, and the description and directives so eloquently and thoroughly conveyed by President Putin. I still remain a patriotic American but leaders

grrr...our “leaders” are an embarrassment- my fellow Americans are overdue for a wake-up call. I hope we still have a few good diplomats left.

Your comment brings forth a perplexing question: What about America merits patriotism?

I have one answer: Those trying to set the record straight while trying to attain the Four Freedoms for all.

The image of America presented by the Statue of Liberty does.

However, the present government is contemptible.

No one in “power” defines patriotism.

Lincoln was wrong “government of, by and for the people” did not survive.

Tell Ben Franklin “we did not keep it”
