Sly devil, Putin sure is.

Moreover, we will try, and the government already has such an instruction, within the framework of WTO rules, to provide certain advantages to our domestic producers.

Just perfect, tossed it off just like that. In Brussels, where the WTO HQ is located, resides the maintenance of the Harmonized Tariff for International Trade. I worked on this for US Customs as part of a Modernization project, then still the Treasury Department, for a year.

Trump would love it. They are tariffs.

Yes, Putin’s sly. You’ll see this comment at MoA, but I must add it to comments here:

One of the more interesting things that have happened in the long line of attempts at peace negotiations was showcased by President Putin today as he prefaced his answer to the second Q posed:

"But first of all, I would like to start by thanking the President the United States of Mr. Trump for devoting so much to the settlement in Ukraine A lot of attention. We all have enough of our current affairs. But many leaders, the President of the People's Republic of China, Prime Minister of India, Presidents of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa are dealing with this issue, devoting a lot of time. We are grateful to all of them for this because this activity is aimed at achieving a noble mission–-mission to end hostilities and human losses."

Trump's efforts were put into the same class as those of BRICS leaders, and we all know how those efforts ended--failure to get anywhere. So, before Putin had answered, he answered--Trump's effort was appreciated like those made by BRICS leaders, but the outcome was the same: NoGo.

Of course, Putin went on to explain to those unable to see his answer why it was a NoGo. To add to what Putin said, it was a NoGo the minute the Jeddah talks commenced without the Russians. That will probably be explained again to Witkoff. And I'm happy to see more have picked up my point that the Outlaw US Empire has no role to play in the negotiations unless it's designated Ukraine's agent or it admits its role in starting the war and that it's a co-belligerent, which also means admitting it's lost the war it started.

right on karl..thanks for this and all your work..

Exactly right. I read your response at MoA and you seem to be getting more traction on the topic of the US not having a role. I have been hitting that line also. I'll leave the belligerent line alone. Supertankers are slow to turn and hard to stop.

BTW, what kind of documentation and signatures are required for Peace Treaties or Cease Fire Agreements? Ukraine has no legal government nor government leaders as far as I know. Where the Ukies in Jeddah legal representatives?

The #1 thing Team Trump must arrange is a Ukrainian election as that solves several problems beginning with the big one: Legitimacy. Many things then become possible. The reality is nothing can be done without #1. That Team Trump is blind to that very large reality speaks volumes for its lack of legal expertise and intelligence.

Expand full comment

Why should Team Trump arrange a Ukrainian election? We all agree that elections in/for the currently undemocratic Ukraine are important -- but it is not the US's problem; that is the Ukraine's problem. What is likely happening is setting up the situation for the Trump Administration to walk away from a recalcitrant Zelensky. Problem over, from the US perspective.

Think about it. The US persuaded Zelensky to offer a limited cease fire proposal, which everyone could see was a non-starter; the US did not even immediately send their top guy to Russia to explain/sell the Ukrainian proposal (because the US knew it was a non-starter). The Euros melted down -- Good! from the US perspective. Then Russia predictably replied that they would agree with a cease fire ... with conditions, which will be unacceptable to Zelensky.

Next step is that Zelensky will reject Putin's cease fire offer. US says we tried, but given Zelensky's obstinacy, we are walking away. Morale in the Ukraine sinks to the bottom, and Euros melt down again. Russia does what it has to do, and US/Russian relations improve.

Expand full comment

That’s possible. The problem is the Outlaw US Empire is liable for starting the war. Trump could walk away and then have the equivalent of the Afghanistan debacle. And recall Trump wants to make deals, and to do that he needs credibility, which is something he currently lacks.

Today's Inside China Business is carry a story of India's ambition to supply weapons to the west. The root causes are buried under mounds of BS, and it's disappointing to see a BRICS nation look at business opportunity at the expense of a fellow BRICS member. Still, Russia proceeds to alter the facts on the ground (an expression loved by the Americans) and they'll have to learn to accept it or face an ever worsening situation for their position in the wider world.

Take your time mulling over my response DJT, no rush, you have a lot on your plate, me too, we have a few thousand Nazis and other undesirables to eliminate in Kursk over the next few days.

How about a call on Sunday or Monday when Kursk is cleared for good?

PS Steve's in possession of your & Mrs Trump's May 9th parade invitations. I know you requested an invitation for Elon but he'll just have to view proceedings from his Starlink. Maybe next year tell him.

There is always a City of London rat guiding the nazi 'peacemakers' and in this case ...

"According to newspaper reporting in London, Yermak was advised during the drafting of the Joint Statement by Jonathan Powell (right), the National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Powell, according to the Financial Times, “ has been in Kyiv advising Zelenskyy’s team on how to handle the discussions.” Following the end of the Jeddah talks and release of the Joint Statement, Starmer claimed personal credit for the “concerted European effort, led by Sir Keir Starmer, to get the US and Ukraine back in good favour with one another. Sir Keir praised the ‘remarkable breakthrough’ and called it an ‘important moment for peace in Ukraine’…Over the weekend Powell travelled to Kyiv to meet Zelensky and help draft a written proposal which included a temporary pause in fighting, then confidence-building measures such as an exchange of prisoners-of-war, the return of Ukrainian children taken by Russia and the release of civilians. That proposal was agreed by the Ukrainians and the Americans, setting the stage for what happened in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.”

See what mendacious/gullible fools are on the USA team... they supported the 'stolen children' BS and put their f##king name on it. Now they face the world as little angel boys...OMFG

Yes I can see Witless, err Dummkopf, err Witkoff landing his plane in NY with 300 children on board waving a Russian declaration of unconditional surrender, probably around the same time as he clears up the rubble in Gaza and builds beachfront properties for the Hamas leadership.

Still, Trump using Witkoff and not Rubio or Walz or Hegseth or whoever took part in the 'balls are in your mouth' meeting with Frankenstein lookalike Yermak, means he gets to hear VVP's response in private, maybe even a personal letter/message; like, if you're serious Don, you and the wife come along to Victory Day and I'll guarantee you a ceasefire for the whole 24hrs.

I doubt the USA has the intellectual capacity to design the next stage of disengagement let alone find a credible enforcer. All the prattle about the ball in Putin's court has led to calling the USA bluff. It will take intense effort for any Trump gaggle of clowns to design an acceptable-to-all proposition especially if Russia chooses to sit silent and ask for functional documentation designed in an inclusive format. That aint gonna happen.

But it will be fun to watch USA casino hucksters give it a try. Perhaps Putin is too polite to say it directly: the USA and its body lice in europe made this bed and they can now lie in it and thrash about.

Yes, it's not five d chess that Trump can't focus on an actual program, it's him firing a shotgun and looking for what falls from the sky. I just don't see artful misdirection if he's taking on the City and its permanent state enablers. Alex Krainer's hypothesis is interesting, but I expect something coherent from Trump with actual delivery, soon.

Ah, but who has more experience—Trump or MI6?

I'd say MI6, except agent starmer isn't up to Bond standards even in fatigues. Even the Brits can't escape the US tech loop, and it was Trump who nixed Huawei's operation in the UK, even after they'd been cleared of not installing backdoors. Don't forget, Bond is dead, he's been replaced by a DEI agent.

Comrade altbinhax please consider Agent 13 rather than Bond. At least Maxwell Smart had imagination and a PO Box ;)

It seems as if Starmer is a permanent occupant of the Cone of Silence.

I was making observations about trump government, jokes really but it is a serious comment.

Let us remember that President Putin spoke to trump, then Foreign ministers met in Riyadh. They said it was necessary to restore diplomatic relations and generally Ukraine was not discussed, certainly not any peace agreements. Then the Europeans and zelensky were hysterical, all met trump in Washington that ended with zelensky disgraced himself before all the world. Approximately ten days passed, more hysteria, and American foreign minister level meetings with Ukraine result in a peace agreement, without consultation or consideration of Russia. This unilateral agreement is not refused but questioned and logically by President Putin. An American real estate oligarch visits Moscow and immediately returns to Washington. Trump imposes more sanctions on Russia.

America is guilty of starting the conflict many years ago.

America is involved in SVO from February 2022 with biden.

America is still an active participant in SVO 2025 with trump.

Did I not understand trump and his oligarchs?

You’re very competent at straightening out spin. You have the basics 100% correct. By now you’ll have read what Putin said to the Security Council today. I posted his short remarks at MoA and I’ll do so again here for others to read:

Here's what Putin said today at his Security Council Meeting, http://kremlin.ru/events/president/news/76459:

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Colleagues, good Evening!

We will begin work, and today we have the planned issue of restoring Russian-American relations.

We know that the new administration, led by President Trump, is doing everything to restore at least some of what was practically reduced to zero, destroyed by the previous US administration. This process is not easy, if not difficult. Nevertheless, as everyone knows, I had a telephone conversation with President Trump, and our Foreign Minister had the first contacts with his American counterpart, and Russian presidential aide [Yury] Ushakov met with his counterparts. So, in general, the situation is beginning to move. Let's see what will come of it. We will deal with this topic today. We have two speakers: Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Naryshkin Evgenievich.

But before we start work, I would like to say that we have read today's address by the President of the United States, Mr. Trump, to spare the lives of servicemen of the Ukrainian army, whose units are blocked by Russian troops in the zone of the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk region.

In this regard, Please note that Ukrainian militants committed in the invasion zone numerous crimes against the civilian population. These deeds, as I have already said, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation qualifies as terrorism.

At the same time, we understand President Trump's call to be guided by humanitarian considerations with regard to these troops. In this I emphasize that in the event of laying down their arms and surrendering, they will be life and dignified treatment in accordance with the norms are guaranteed international law and the laws of the Russian Federation.

For the effective implementation of the call of the President of the United States, an appropriate order is needed from the military-political leadership of Ukraine to lay down their arms and surrender.

I suggest Let's move on to the agenda for which we have gathered today. You are welcome the floor is given to Sergei Lavrov. [My Emphasis]

Apparently, Ukraine kidnapped an unknown number of Kursk civilians or at least that’s what’s being said, and that complicates the situation. And of course, we’d all like to know what Putin told Witkoff.

This was and is a great report.... as its word by word what was said... thanks Karl for bringing it... to us...

President Putins answer to the US/Ukraine... is very diplomatic... but also humorous... if not hilarious in places... a good way to present a deeply serious answer...

....

Trump being who he is... will appreciate a strong opponent... and enjoy the game of extracticating himself/ie USA in the best possible way... he is lucky Putin is not vindictive, but Trump better act quickly... or he will have egg on his face... if not all over his body... and he won't like that.

---o---

Looks good so far... but for for the EU... ie us citizens in the EU... such as me :-) with the lunatics who run the EU at the moment.... Best scenario would be the dissolution of EU and NATO... the QUESTION IS: How do we do that !!!.... with PMs like mine the Mette Frederiksen ... and all the politicians in the Danish parliament brainwashed, heads up their asses and or too afraid to think for themselves and speak up... ... etc etc...

Well we shall see .... at least I see the Danes before 99.9999% brainwashed beginning to wake up, and speak up...

Miracles still happen ...

Perhaps protecting Greenlanders from the Outlaw US Empire will wake them up. Recent polling shows over 85% of Greenlanders want nothing to do with the Empire, but also want freedom from Denmark. UN Rules say they have the right to be independent. Same with Canada.
